April 17, 2023 - Moving in the Right Direction Senior Seminar & Expo - Mary Beck, Senior Real Estate Professional (SRES), and Julie N. April 17, 2023 - JazzMN Celebrates Louis Armstrong and the Sounds of New Orleans with special guest artist BYRON STRIPLING - You won’t want to miss this exciting and heartfelt tribute to Louis Armstrong. Byron Stripling’s engaging rapport, jazzy vocals and virtuosic trumpet capture the essence and charm of the jazz icon: Satchmo.  Stripling first made his mark as lead trumpet and soloist with the Count Basie Orchestra under the direction of Thad Jones and Frank Foster. He has been a regular with the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, the Carnegie Hall Jazz Band, and the GRP All Star Big Band.He has also played and recorded with jazz luminaries such as Dizzy Gillespie, Woody Herman, Dave Brubeck, Lionel Hampton, Clark Terry, Louis Bellson, and Buck Clayton.

Since his Carnegie Hall debut, Stripling has become a much-in-demand guest soloist with orchestras across the country. He has been a featured soloist at the Hollywood Bowl and on a PBS special with conductors John Williams and Keith Lockhart. 

Stripling currently serves as artistic director and conductor of the highly-acclaimed Columbus Jazz Orchestra.

October 2, 2023 - JazzMN Orchestra in Concert with:  Grammy Award-Winning Trumpet Legend, RANDY BRECKER - JazzMN is excited to collaborate once again with trumpeter and composer Randy Brecker, who has helped shape the sound of jazz, R&B and rock for more than four decades. His trumpet and flugelhorn performances have graced hundreds of albums by a wide range of artists from James Taylor, Bruce Springsteen and Parliament/Funkadelic to Frank Sinatra, Steely Dan, and Frank Zappa. Born in 1945 to a musical family, Randy’s talent was nurtured from an early age. He attended Indiana University studying with Bill Adam, David Baker and Jerry Coker and later moved to New Your where he landed gigs with prominent bands including Clark Terry’s Big Bad Band, the Duke Pearson Big Band and the Thad Jones Mel Lewis Jazz Orchestra. In ’67 he ventured into the jazz rock genre with the band, Blood, Sweat and Tears. In the early 70s he performed live with many prominent artists including Larry Coryell’s Eleventh House, Stevie Wonder and Billy Cobham. By 1975, he and his brother Michael formed their own group, the ‘Brecker Brothers Band.’ A band of immeasurable impact, they recorded six albums on Arista garnering seven Grammy nominations. He later went on to receive numerous Grammy Awards. 55+ Driver Improvement Program - 8 hour initial course and 4 hour refresher courses available.  Participants who are age 55 and older will earn a 10% discount on their automobile insurance premium by taking the initial 8 hour course. The 10% discount can be retained be taking a 4 hour refresher course every three years.  This is an approved accident prevention course with the Minnesota Department of Public Safety and is similar in content to the nationally recognized 55 Alive or 55 plus course.  Cost:  The 8 hour course fee is $24.  The 4 hour course fee is $20.  For class times and locations and to register call toll free at 1-888-234-1294 or Click Here.

FREE YOGA CLASSES - Union Depot in downtown St. Paul has added another free yoga opportunity to its weekly schedule of classes open to the public.  The new class, Yoga Sculpt done with no weights, will be held weekly on Mondays beginning April 4 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. and will be taught by skilled instructors from Studio925 by CorePower Yoga & Spa in Woodbury.  No advance registration is required.  Yoga Sculpt with no weights is a total body workout designed to tone and sculpt every major muscle group.  This class will increase the heart rate with an easy-to-follow program and complements regular yoga practice by increasing overall strength.  Union Depot also offers free yoga classes on Tuesday from 12:00-1:00 p.m. and Saturday from 9:00-10:00 a.m.  The Tuesday classes are at Intermediate level and the Saturday classes are at a variety of skill levels, with the first Saturday of the month focused on Beginner level. Let's Go Fishing with Seniors:  If you enjoy the outdoors and you're looking for a fabulous volunteer opportunity, here's your chance!  LGF is a network of members, volunteers and chapters with a passion for the outdoors and who come together as one team, to serve seniors and advance the mission of LGF. Our unique program serves to improve the quality of life for seniors and build stronger communities. With chapters located throughout Minnesota LGF is able to reach thousands of individuals each year. All the fishing rods, bait, and life jackets are provided.  The pontoons  are handicap accessible.  The only thing the individual needs to provide is a fishing license! Student Theatre Camp Experience Rises To Top
Chanhassen Dinner Theatres’ renowned summer theatre camp program, CHAN DT MUSICAL THEATRE CAMP, returns this summer with exciting new themes for youths and teens.  Since 1994, over 11,000 kids and teens have learned about the magic of musical theatre as only Chanhassen can do it. This educational camp program is also terrific summertime fun. Kids and teens, ages eight to eighteen, are given opportunities to explore a wide spectrum of musical theatre components including voice, movement, costumes, scenery, stage combat, improv and more -- all taught by professional members of the Chanhassen acting company, designers and choreographers making the CDT student theatre experience rise above other offered theatre camp programs.  Camp sessions are available throughout the summer months for both half and full day, week-long sessions. This makes the perfect gift for grandchildren who love musical theatre or are looking to make new friends and boost confidence.
