Minnesota Seniors Online

                                            About TV Columnist Marje Visker:

Marje grew up in Southwestern Minnesota.  She moved to California in the late 80’s and was both honored and privileged to experience life on tour and on set.  After turning down a bit part in a TV series she realized the stage was not for her.  Now a resident of Blaine, she returned to Minnesota with a love and appreciation for the many talents that go into the entertainment industry.   Years later after watching Dancing With The Stars, she was hooked on talent based reality shows.

Weird or What? - It reminded me of Rippley’s Believe it or Not with a dose of paranormal.  William Shatner has continued to reinvent himself long after his stint on Star Trek.  You’ll love his witty charm as host on Syfy’s Weird or What.  I must say this show will make you ponder the unknown, question the what ifs and holy crap the I’ll be darns.  Let’s face it real is just a matter of perception.  Just when the show was getting to the good part the so-called scientists start rattling off their theories…come on man!

Defiance ~ Listen up!  I do not recommend multitasking while watching this Syfy show.  The quicker you familiarize yourself with the terminology and characters the less confused you will be, simply put there’s a lot going on.  I suspect the trekkies and fringies will be in heaven!  The series is set in the near future when the aliens known as Votans come to earth in search of a new home after their star system was destroyed.  Many Votans remain in hypersleep aboard their ships as negotiations drag on with earth governments.  After a Votan ambassador is assassinated on live TV a disastrous global conflict ensues between humans and aliens known as the Pale Wars.  Now it’s up to you to watch and learn how the apocalyptic Arkfall event changed the geology of earth, making it a dangerous place by mutating hybrids of new species.

Big Brain Theory ~ On the Discovery channel, Host Kal Penn wants to know, what’s your IQ?  During this engineering competition, the cast of super geniuses must play the game while living and working together.  Tensions grow as they begin to discover the habits and quirks of their fellow competitors.  Each week the contestants will be given 30 minutes to come up with a solution to a weekly engineering challenge using their own intellect.  Based on logic and design the panel of Judges will decide on the best concept.  The worst design loses and faces the judges for elimination.  The winner of the Big Brain Theory will receive $50,000 and a one-year contract to work with Wet.  Wet designs water-based experiences like the one at the Bellagio in Las Vegas.
